Google Ads Agency in Chapel Hill, NC

Chapel Hill’s customer base resets every August. UNC brings thousands of students back, parents fund half the purchases, game days pack Franklin Street, and summer goes quiet. We plan Chapel Hill campaigns on the academic calendar, not the fiscal one.

    The Chapel Hill Market

A Town That Runs on UNC's Academic Calendar

Chapel Hill has about 64,000 residents (U.S. Census Bureau, 2024 estimate), and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill shapes nearly everything about it. UNC and UNC Health, including UNC Hospitals, are the dominant employers, and Franklin Street’s restaurants and shops sit at the campus edge. Carrboro blends into Chapel Hill on the west, Durham is a short drive east, and much of the town’s workforce commutes in from elsewhere in Orange and Chatham counties.

The calendar matters more than the map. Student housing pre-leasing starts early, often in the fall for the following year, and August move-in sets off searches for apartments, furniture, storage, phone repair and food delivery. Tar Heels football and basketball games, graduation in May and family weekends bring visitors who search for hotels and restaurants. Summer is noticeably quieter, so a flat monthly budget overspends in July and underspends in late August.

There’s also a second, older audience. Faculty, medical staff and retirees attracted to the university town look for financial advisors, specialty healthcare, home services and real estate, and they behave very differently from students. Running both audiences through one campaign blurs the data, so we split them by intent and messaging.

    FAQ

    Chapel Hill Google Ads FAQs

How much does a Chapel Hill business pay for Google Ads management?
Our fee is a flat $1,500–$5,000 a month, 10–20% of ad spend, or a hybrid. Ad spend is separate, and many Chapel Hill restaurants, tutors and property managers run well on $1.5K–$5K a month in media, with larger budgets around move-in and game days. No long-term contract; see the pricing page.
Earlier than most owners expect. Students often sign leases for the next academic year during the fall and winter, and competition for the best units peaks before spring. We start campaigns ahead of that window, remarket to students and parents who toured or inquired, and scale back over summer once occupancy is set.
Often, yes. Parents research housing, storage, moving help and even tutoring, and they frequently pay. They search differently, value different details (safety, lease terms, quality) and are easier to reach on desktop and YouTube. We build separate ad groups and landing pages for parents so both audiences get the message that moves them.
For restaurants, bars, hotels and parking, game days are some of the busiest of the year. Searches spike in the hours before and after games, mostly on mobile. We schedule bid increases and location-specific ads for home games and big weekends, then return budgets to normal so you’re not paying peak rates on quiet days.
For campus-facing businesses, yes. For home services and healthcare, the town alone may be thin, so we usually include Carrboro, Hillsborough and nearby Durham ZIP codes. We separate those locations in reporting so you can see whether leads from outside Chapel Hill are worth the drive or the extra spend.
