Remarketing & Retargeting Campaigns That Recover Lost Revenue

Most visitors leave without buying. Google Ads remarketing brings them back — on Search, YouTube, Gmail and across the Display Network — with ads based on what they looked at. We build the lists, the dynamic ads and the exclusions so retargeting wins back revenue instead of re-buying sales you’d have made anyway.

How Google Ads Remarketing Works — and What We Manage

Remarketing (also called retargeting) shows ads to people who have already interacted with your business:

the Google tag on your site, or audiences shared from GA4, adds visitors to lists based on rules you define — viewed a product, started checkout, read the pricing page, came back twice in a week. Google Ads can then target those lists, or bid differently for them, on Display, YouTube, Gmail and Search, where the feature is called RLSA (remarketing lists for search ads). Membership can last up to 540 days, and a list needs a minimum number of active users before it serves; the bar is higher on Search and YouTube than on Display.

There are four main audience sources. Website and app visitors collected by your tag or GA4. YouTube users who watched your videos or engaged with your channel. Customer Match, where hashed emails or phone numbers from your CRM let you reach past buyers and leads, subject to Google’s eligibility and policy requirements. And dynamic remarketing, which pulls from a product feed so ads show the exact items someone viewed, with current price and availability.

Privacy rules shape all of it. For visitors in the European Economic Area and UK, Consent Mode has to pass users’ choices to Google, or remarketing lists stop growing for that traffic. Declined consent, browser tracking restrictions and ad blockers shrink lists everywhere, so first-party data matters more each year. Google’s personalized advertising policies also bar remarketing based on sensitive information such as health conditions, which is why regulated brands like those in supplements and nutraceuticals need careful list design.

Management is where retargeting earns or wastes money. We segment by intent and recency, exclude recent purchasers, cap frequency, and test whether remarketing lifts revenue rather than taking credit for buyers who were returning anyway. Best for: e-commerce stores with real browse-to-buy drop-off, and B2B or lead-gen companies whose buyers visit several times before converting.

🛒

Dynamic Remarketing

Product feed connected and tag parameters verified so ads show the exact items each visitor viewed, at the current price.

📇

Customer Match Lists

CRM lists uploaded in hashed form to re-engage past buyers, run cross-sells, exclude existing customers and seed lookalike prospecting.

🔎

RLSA on Search

Higher bids or broader keywords for past visitors who search again, so returning buyers find you first on Google.

⏱️

Frequency & Recency Rules

Recency windows and frequency caps that keep retargeting persuasive rather than irritating, and stop spend on stale audiences.

🧪

Incrementality Testing

Holdout groups and lift checks that confirm remarketing creates sales instead of claiming purchases that would have happened anyway.

Process

How We Build a Remarketing Program

01

Fix the tag

Audit the Google tag, GA4 events and consent setup so audiences fill accurately and stay compliant.

02

Segment by intent

Build lists for product viewers, cart and checkout abandoners, past buyers and high-intent page visitors.

03

Match the message

Pair each segment with creative and offers suited to how far it got, from a simple reminder to an incentive.

04

Control frequency

Set recency windows, frequency caps and purchaser exclusions so the same people aren’t over-served.

05

Test for lift

Run holdouts, then move budget to segments that prove incremental and cut the ones that don’t.

How Remarketing Management Is Priced

Remarketing is normally run as part of a wider Google Ads program and priced as a flat monthly fee, a percentage of spend or a hybrid. Google bills ad spend separately. No setup fee and no long contract.

Measurable lift in 90 days — or month 4 is on us

If remarketing and the wider account don’t show measurable lift within 90 days — more recovered revenue at a lower cost per sale — month 4 of management is on us.

FAQ

Google Remarketing FAQs

Straight answers before you book anything.

What is Google Ads remarketing?
It’s a way to show ads to people who previously visited your website, used your app, watched your YouTube videos or appear in your customer list. Google adds them to audience lists through the Google tag, GA4 or uploaded data, and you then reach those lists with display, video and search ads tailored to what they did. It’s one of the cheapest ways to recover sales from warm traffic.
In practice, nothing. Google calls its feature remarketing, while most other platforms and marketers say retargeting. Both describe reaching people who already interacted with your brand. Some marketers reserve remarketing for email follow-ups and retargeting for paid ads, but Google retargeting ads and Google remarketing ads are the same product.
The old standalone remarketing tag is now part of the Google tag, installed directly on your site or through Google Tag Manager. Make sure audience data collection is enabled, then create website-visitor segments with rules based on page URLs or events. If you use GA4, you can build audiences there and share them with linked Google Ads accounts. For dynamic remarketing, the tag must also send product IDs that match your feed.
Dynamic remarketing builds ads automatically from a feed, showing each person the specific products or services they viewed. For retailers the feed is usually Merchant Center, so someone who looked at a pair of running shoes sees that shoe with its current price instead of a generic brand banner. It suits stores with large catalogs, where a single static ad can’t reflect what each visitor wanted.
There’s no universal number, but too much frequency wastes budget and annoys people. We set caps per campaign, shorten recency windows for impulse products and lengthen them for considered purchases, and always exclude recent buyers unless we’re running a deliberate cross-sell. Rising frequency alongside a falling click-through rate is the signal to refresh creative or tighten the list.
Only within limits. Google’s personalized advertising policies restrict remarketing based on sensitive information, including health conditions, and some categories can’t use personalized audiences at all. Brands in these spaces often lean on broader messaging, contextual targeting and non-sensitive list rules instead. We review list design against current policy for each account rather than assuming what’s allowed.
Yes, but lists are smaller than they used to be. Declined consent, browser restrictions and ad blockers mean fewer visitors get tagged. The answer is stronger first-party data: Customer Match from your CRM, enhanced conversions, GA4 audiences and properly configured Consent Mode, plus engagement lists from your YouTube campaigns, which don’t depend on website cookies.
Remarketing budgets are usually a modest share of total spend, because the audience is limited to people who already know you. Cost per click and per impression vary with list size and placement. Our fee covers remarketing together with the rest of your Google Ads management — see pricing for the flat, percentage and hybrid models.
